Blossom 02:29
He chuckles into space At her disapproving face As he takes the crystal glassware from its ornamental case Along the window sills Beside dispenser packs of pills Are the fragrance bottles salvaged from the sale She would joke his perfume was brown ale He reads the labels over And wades through grass and clover The book of British trees clasped in his hand And he gathers fallen blossom from the land Bending takes a while But its better with a smile It’s good to work his muscles in the sun The joy is in the doing not the done The scent is fairly strong But it really won’t last long So precious quick the petals start to brown Once more into the fields in dressing gown He ties each sandwich bag with a disused Christmas tag And documents the scent with studious care Then he shuffles round the house that he once shared with his spouse And he fills up every piece of crystalware

Origami Bird 03:30
We spent our summers reaching For sticklebacks in streams But yesterday’s a false friend Though distantly, she gleams Now we’re older Still buffered by the company we keep We’re mostly seated Deafened by the lullaby of sleep We couldn’t always buy things So we made them with our hands Floating boats from paper And planes with rubber bands Echoes cast long shadows But they’re devils in disguise The nowness of the moment Conceals its own demise.  Time in the creases of an origami bird Each fold and recess holds a story to be heard Pull the head and tail and moments rise in flight Droplets in a mist that melts the light

There were many of them They were gathered near the wood We had only handmade tools And the clothes in which we stood When the fire was started and The forest filled with smoke Soon we saw the doubled frames Of nearby village folk The ruling party wielded The means to terrify But evil only triumphs When we good men stand by Miners brought the mercury That made the river bend Bolsonaro’s loggers Will leave nothing to defend

April's Ides 03:14
Down by the boats After the rain Nightfall on April’s Ides Caught in her eyes Rife fireflies Light up the lake like runway guides Here’s a life worth living Tumbles from her tongue With one soft endorsement Healing has begun Always on me Worn like gold Always make your story bold I try to keep Out of the deep Wading the pregnant lake Devils begin Under the skin Crafting the apple not to take Here’s a life worth living Tumbles from her tongue Words forever giving Words to keep me young Always on me Worn like gold Always make your story bold

I’ve got my 55 inch TV mounted on the wall Near my bed And I try to listen closely to what is said Though I’m tired and old But my life and the lives of those I love Make too much sound That rattle and drag like ghost chains Along the ground So I will go stand in line This is how we break the bind Come snow or rain or shine Where is this whole go circus gonna go? Our children, their children need to know Don’t be a domino It’s been a winter unlike all before And I’ve lived through war (all fall done) There are wolves, and bailiffs and deadliest outside my door For a change One hundred thousand as I write this note Each with a name (and that’s just here) It’s enough to make you wonder what we hold dear And if we’re really all the same So I will go stand in line This is how we break the bind Come snow or rain or shine Where is this whole go circus gonna go? Our children, their children need to know Put a cross in the box and go
